Crayon Project!
Well, I am officially obsessed with Pinterest. In past 24 hours, I've seen lots of fun crayon-melting projects pinned, so I had to try it for myself! Truthfully, I've wanted to do this since I was a kid! Since my toddler loves coloring, and since we've broken a few crayons lately, this seemed like the perfect easy project to try. There are tons of ways to do this, but here's what I did:
I grouped my crayons into shades of the same color. You can get really crazy with lots of color combinations, but I wanted to keep it simple since my little one is still working on the basics! I used a mini-muffin tin, sprayed with cooking spray, and preheated the oven to 275. If using a mini-muffin tin, I found that 4 regular sized crayons fit perfectly into one cup. I broke four crayons into four pieces each, on average, and it worked great! I also attempted to get a spotted look by standing them on end. Then I baked them for seven minutes and carefully removed them. (Be sure you don't overfill the cups!)
Don't be too anxious for them to dry. Wait until the cups are cool to the touch before putting them in the refrigerator to finish cooling. (On my first attempt, a few of the chunks cracked, so I had to re-melt them!) Once they've cooled, you can just turn the pan over and they will fall right out!
Here is the finished product! I'm excited to surprise my little one with these tomorrow!

Now, this actually sounds like a DIY craft project I can handle. How fun! My kids would love this. Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteI've done this before but never all in one shade. I've done the heart shaped crayons around Valentine's Day for my class. PS...if you are impatient, like me, you can stick them in the freezer and they cool a lot faster. They pop right out after a few minutes in the freezer!
