Target fabulous deals

Oh, how I loved Target today! They actually had most of the deals I wanted in stock.

So, I did a little research last night on my four favorite blogs (listed to the right) and had a little list together.

Purchases: two packages of Lipton tea, two giant packages of Bic Silky Twin razors, one package of Excedrin, two travel size Degree deodorants, one travel size of Satin Care shave gel, and one Circo girl's cardigan (reg price was $9... on sale for $2).

Total was $23.12. Paid $5.82 after coupons!

Walgreens 3/29/2011

Walgreens is having a couple of lovely deals right now...

Transaction #1: Charmin 6-pack, distilled water gallon, 2 tubes of Colgate Advanced. Total was $10.49. Used two Colgate $1.50-off manufacturer coupons. Received $4 in RR from the toothpaste. Essentially I made $1 by buying the toothpaste.

Transaction #2: Two pressed powder compacts ($7 each), 1 piece Easter candy used as filler item. (CG products are B1G1-50% off). Also used two $1-off manufacturer coupons on CG products.

Total: $25.77. Paid $12.13 after coupons and Register Rewards. Saved over 50%!

HEB deals

Thanks to the HEB points club rewards, the weekly meal deals, and manufacturer coupons, I had a great trip to HEB this weekend! I purchased $55.82 worth of groceries for only $28.14!
The meal deals (I purchased two for $10.28 each) included Stouffer's party sized enchiladas and lasagna, which will make at least eight meals for our family. Then this included two of the following: bagged salad, bottle salad dressing, Nesquik, and garlic bread.
Then we purchased other fresh produce, tortillas, deli lunch meat, cans of soup and black beans, tortilla chips, plastic wrap, and some other items that I had already put away when I remembered to snap a photo.
Since HEB is a regional store, I initially had a hard time finding deals for this store. I just found them myself with my weekly grocery circular. But, I have recently discovered that there are weekly deal match-ups on Money Saving Mom and Southern Savers! There is also another blog I've discovered called Frugal Reality: A Texas Mom's Guide to Living Well for Less. So, there are definitely resources out there if you shop at a smaller regional grocery chain like HEB.

The Talk (about money)

So, I have recently watched The Talk a few times on CBS. If you haven't seen it, the show focuses on topics relevant to moms, for the most part. I really love this show because it offers different perspectives and is super funny and encouraging. Wednesday's episode was really great because financial expert Jean Chatzky was there offering tips on how to teach your kids about money so you "don't have a 25-year-old still sitting on your couch." Point taken. She has a new book called Not Your Parents' Money Book, which I can't wait to read. After seeing so many people struggle with financial mistakes, I want to be so intentional about teaching my kids about money. She also mentions a website called Choose to Save where you can calculate how much money you need to save in order to retire. I definitely thought this was worth sharing!

Free and cheap this week!

There are some fabulous deals going on right now!

First of all, there is FREE Right Guard deodorant at Walgreens. Clip the B1G1 coupon from Sunday's paper. Then go to Walgreens and take two to the register. Since Walgreens has it for B1G1 and you have a coupon for B1G1, you end up getting two free!

Second, I got FREE Propel water and Taster's Choice from Catalina coupons printed at HEB.

Third, if you have pets, Iams is currently having a mail in rebate for FREE pet food.

Fourth, if you love Hobby Lobby like I do, print out the 40% off one regularly priced item on their website.

Fifth, Chili's is currently having promotions offering free appetizers/desserts/kids meals. Visit their website and Facebook page and you will be able to print the offer.

Finally, Groupon is offering a $10 Shutterfly photobook which typically starts at $29.99. You get a 20 page 8x8 photobook for just $10. Such a great deal!

Walgreens 3/15/2011

Transaction 1: Dial Nutri-skin $4.99, used $1 off coupon, and received $3 Register Rewards. Irish Spring $3 each, used $1 off coupon, and received $4 RR. Fabric softener $4.99, used $2 off coupon, and received $2 RR.

Transaction 2: Large package of Huggies wipes priced at $6.99, used $1 off coupon. Two boxes Cheerios, used $1 off coupon. Three boxes of pasta used as filler items. Then I used the $9 in RR from previous transaction.

Celebrating

First, I am celebrating one month of The Intentional Momma blog! Thank you to the 88 followers, the 1,221 pageviews, and readers from 11 countries. (Should I be concerned that these are all divisible by 11?)

Second, we recently celebrated our daughter's birthday with these yummy homemade pink velvet cupcakes. I used a coupon to purchase these Reynolds brand baking cups. I love the "Party Fabulous DIY tip" on the packaging: "Save the cost of buying mini ice cream cartons and the time of having to scoop during your party. Scoop ice cream into baking cups on a tray or cookie sheet. Place the tray in the freezer for up to 24 hours until you're ready to serve." That's a handy little tip for the future!

De-cluttering

In an earlier post, I mentioned my attempt to de-clutter my life. This process has been going fairly well. In addition to resigning from my job, I have been trying to eliminate any tangible clutter that I don't really need. To an outsider, my house probably wouldn't look extremely messy or cluttered, but to me, it just feels like there is too much.

We have been cleaning out closets. I cleaned out the pantry. I am going through the baby's stuff. We are donating, recycling, selling. With each article that leaves the house, I feel so much lighter.

As I was perusing the recent issue of O Magazine ("De-cluttering your life: say goodbye to the stuff that's weighing you down"), Oprah says, "I'm not just cleaning my closet. I'm cleaning out my life. And I'm keeping only that which delights me or enhances my well-being... Organizational expert Peter Walsh says in his book Enough Already! that our homes are 'overwhelmed with stuff and [our] lives littered with the empty promises that the stuff didn't fulfill... In buying what we want, we hope to acquire the life we desire... [But] chasing the life you want by accumulating more stuff is a dead-end street.'" (p. 212).

In the same issue, a New York designer shared similar sentiment, "We don't have a lot of control in life, but we really do have control over the objects in our homes. So when the world is spinning too fast and you feel completely crazed, just get the things around you settled. It makes you feel better." (p. 159).

I remember an article I read in FitPregnancy when I was pregnant. The article was "Avoid 'stuff stress'" and said "Succumbing to the idea that you can't have a baby without buying tons of stuff causes stress in the form of buying decisions, clutter, and financial hardship" (p. 75, 2009).

At that point, I started realizing that Stuff=Stress.

This information by no means reflects my most deeply held convictions, but I figure it offers a simple and positive way to practice better stewardship and self-control in our homes and in our lives!

Target and Walgreens this weekend

Yesterday at Target I scored tons of FREE Nature Valley granola bars by stacking Target coupons with manufacturer coupons. These 4-packs were in Target's Dollar Spot. For each box I used a 50-cents-off coupon, then I stacked it with (multiple) $1.50-off-three General Mills coupons, which made each box free!

Today at Walgreens I got a couple of good deals on Register Reward items. Softsoap body wash was on sale 2 for $7, and then you got a $5 RR. I used a $1 off coupon too, so I ended up paying 50 cents for each body wash, which saved me over $6. Folgers coffee was on sale for $3 each, and you got a $1 RR when you purchased two. I also used a $1 off coupon, so I payed $2 per package of coffee.

For all of these goodies, retail price was more than $28. I only paid $5! Once again, I am just stocking up on items we use--while they're on sale!

Walgreens this week: part two!

Today was probably the most SUCCESSFUL couponing trip for me yet!

After watching (twice) the Krazy Coupon Lady's YouTube video on couponing at Walgreens, I was ready to go for it! Armed with my Sunday ad, my stash of coupons, and a strategy for two-three transactions, I maneuvered my way through the store. Unfortunately, they were out of a few of the items on my list. Since it was Thursday, I knew going into it that some of the great deals would be out of stock.

So, here's how I did...

Transaction 1: Four 2-packs of Gerber baby food ($1.39 each), one box of Barilla penne pasta (99 cents on sale), one jumbo pack of Huggies Little Movers ($8.99 on sale), and Gillette Fusion ProGlide Razor Kit ($9.99 on sale). Total was $27.67. After coupons, I paid $9.64. I used 3 $3 Register Rewards, $1 off 4 Gerber coupon, $2 off Huggies, and $4 off razor coupon. Then, I received $6 in Register Rewards for the razor and the diapers.

Transaction 2: Two canisters of Gerber puffs ($2.99 each), and two packages of Gerber snacks ($2.50 each). Then I used the $4 and $2 RR from the previous transaction, as well as two 65-cents-off-two Gerber manufacturer coupons. Total was $11.91. After coupons, I paid $2.70.

Total savings: I purchased $39.58 worth of products, and I paid $12.34 after coupons!

Walgreens this week: part one

Oh how I love Register Rewards at Walgreens. Let me tell you about my (small but successful) trip to Walgreens today.

Splenda box is regularly more than $5. Walgreens has it on sale for $2.99. Then I printed off the current $2 off 1 coupon. That means I saved over $4 on the Splenda and only paid 99 cents.

The Sunday Walgreens ad featured free Colgate (after Register Rewards). So, I purchased three tubes of Colgate Advanced Whitening in three separate transactions. Regularly more than $3, it was on sale for $2.99 per tube. With each transaction, a $3 RR printed. So, I basically got three tubes free.

The specially marked boxes of Huggies have $30 worth of Walgreens baby coupons inside!

So, these purchases were priced over $37, but I spent $21 and got $30 worth of coupons!

Bows!

Well, I am super excited to announce that my "Butterbeans" hairbows are officially in business! During the fall, I needed some craft "therapy" and ended up making hundreds of hairbows. I set up shop at the local Christmas Marketplace, and I ended up selling tons. So, in December, my bows went on sale at the first location here in town.

I am happy to make custom orders for your children or for gifts. I also sell them in bulk at wholesale prices. See pictures below for boutique bows, clips, tutus, and accessories:

Cupcakes, ladybugs, chicks, owls, rosettes, corkers, square bows, clips, and bow hangers are among my specialties!

I can create custom designs to match your child's outfit or your baby's nursery. I have also done custom orders for the birthday girl and for her party favors! Tutus and boutique bows will look great for portraits!
Check back very soon for my Etsy Shop, and feel free to send me a message if you'd like a custom order!
