At the beginning of August, we found ourselves loaded up in the car with a toddler, a dog, and {thankfully} a DVD player. We were driving through the night from Colorado to Texas to visit family and attend a wedding.
It is pretty miserable for anyone to be buckled up for 17 hours straight, let alone an active toddler. This is why we've opted to drive through the night because she sleeps pretty well in the car which helps pass the time. However, I will say that from now on, we are going to stop in Amarillo or somewhere to spend the night in a hotel. Those last few hours in the wee hours of the morning are absolutely miserable!
As you can see, we encountered a few storms. I passed some time attempting to capture lightning in photographs.
We passed a lot of windmills. And cows. And, that's basically it. To answer your question: Yes, it was as exciting as it looks.
I would give my kids so much junk food, listen to every sing along tape ever recorded and watch every disney movie ever made...still never happy trips...maybe there is no such thing with little kids. now that my kids are older traveling is a delight! it is true!! they get bigger and some things get easier...
