I started with a freehand paper template for the doll. I traced it on Pellon, then cut it out. (Pellon is a thick, white felt that is typically used for inter-lining, and can be found by the yard in most fabric stores.) Then used fabric glue to sandwich it between two pieces of light pink felt cut to the same template. From there I glued on hair and underclothes and drew the face.
For the case, I cut the front and back pieces out of stiff, glittery felt and sewed them to a strip of regular felt for the binding. I hot glued a plastic mirror to a piece of regular felt and sewed it to the inside of the back cover for the wardrobe closet door. I also added a small piece of velcro to the inside of the front cover to help hold the doll during transit.
I am so excited about how it turned out! I even put this project at the top of my DIY Birthday/Christmas gifts list. For a boy, I am thinking of making a felt dump trunk with various materials to put in the back and dump (i.e. sand, rocks, water, trash....), or a felt sandwich or pizza with lots of toppings.
Super cute Ashley!
