My little one and I were so excited to receive our Kelly Kit to review last week! We absolutely love anything crafty and creative, and it's so important for us to try new things to keep life {and learning} interesting!
The hardest part for me as a mom is to come up with projects, buy the supplies, and plan everything for multiple projects every month. That's why I was really excited about the idea of Kelly Kits! {I mean, coloring books can get old--fast!}
This month's Kelly Kit features a Printmaking activity called Sponge & Stamp, which was a great activity for my toddler. I would also recommend it for Pre-Schoolers, Homeschoolers, and kids of all ages!Kelly Kits is an all inclusive art play curriculum for children 2-102. Every art play activity focuses on a simple art techniques in painting, sculpting, drawing, print-making, and collage. The subscription features one kit a month with access to contests, our online community and instructional videos for only $9.99 - shipping and handling included!
This kit features a very cool artist’s medium - compressed cellulose paper. It can be drawn on and cut into intricate designs before water and paints are applied to expand it into a printing tool. Keep it simple for the little ones though using it for shape identification. It also includes an art lesson about positive and negative space.Our kit also included two paint colors, scissors, paper, and a few other handy items!
Then, I put some green paint into the other container {we are saving the yellow one for another day!} and she started painting her paper with the sponges! Eventually, I gave her the popsicle sticks that were included, and she enjoyed using them to stir, mix, and paint.
While the activity is so simple, it is really such an awesome concept. First, I have someone else planning an activity for a change, and who doesn't like that?! Second, it was a new and novel experience for my daughter, so she was totally content exploring the shapes, textures, and possibilities. While I only have one child, I could have used this with three other kids at the table--there was enough there! Luckily for us, I saved half of the supplies to use again in the near future!
